The need for hospital facilities
My grandmother got sick, due to pneumonia. She went to her cardiologist for check up due to heavy labored breathing. She was advised to be brought to the hospital right away since it is an emergency case, she needs oxygen that time. My aunt was with her, since it has to be done ASAP she brought my grandmother to the public hospital (owned by the government ) Pasig City General Hospital. When my mom told me about it, I suddenly panicked, since I have heard several bad feedback about the hospital. Even my cousins who are also abroad protested wanted her to be transferred immediately. Normally in the Philippines some public hospital are dreadful, because most of the time those patients brought to ICU never came out alive. However due to some circumstances, like paper works and the condition of our grandma, they've decided to stay.
In the Philippines, public hospitals or government owned are scary, they lack facilities and other means to assist patients specially with severe conditions. The hear-says turned out to be true. I was totally dismayed by the lack of equipment and facilities from this hospital. My grandmother was sent to the only available private room and it doesn't have air-con, which is a big hassle knowing the condition of our grandmother, she needs to feel comfortable enough for her to be able to rest and respond properly to the medicins she's taking. And summer in the Philippines is totally HOT (36-40 degrees celsius ), imagine that, (without air condition) you will definitely perspire just by sitting down. To add up to that, they don't have enough medicine supplies to cater the patients, so someone has to go out to buy whatever is needed. At one point my grandmother felt better if her bed is a bit elevated for her to breathe better, but then again bed doesn't work. There is a need for a ventilator for my grandmother too, and they have no available ventilator, thus we need to rent outside. I know right? Pathetic. I know you must be thinking "its a public hospital what would you expect?" Precisely, my point. It is a government owned hospital. Government are supposed to take care of their people and its their right to give what is due to the people they govern, but from our country they are so selfish and thinks only how to get what they want: MONEY and Power. I don't blame particular person or anyone here, I just am venting my frustration and disappointment to the current state of public hospitals we have. Here, public hospitals normally got the best facilities and equipments.
I don't hate the Philippines, I do love my country.. I just can't believe for the longest time I still can't see changes in the system of our government... I am hoping change would eventually come. Hospitals and Schools are important things they should focus not on the unending corruption and political interests. I'm totally pissed.
